Reviews of the Books I Read for ‘Spooky Season’
This October, I decided I wanted to read primarily horror and thriller books. I also wanted to try to read as many as possible, so most of the books I read were fairly short, the longest was only around 300 pages. Because of that, if you're looking for a book to read to close out the month or celebrate Halloween, you could easily read one of these in the few days we have left.
The Only One Left: Book Review
My review of the new Riley Sager book, The Only One Left, and my review of him in general as an author.
Reading Disturbing Books: John Fowles’s The Collector
For the last disturbing book, I decided to read a book I've owned for a while but have been intimidated to read. This is partly for the same reason I was reluctant to read (and ended up disliking) Jack Ketchum's work. This book is about a man who kidnaps a young woman and holds her captive. I was sort of worried this would be too sexualized for me to where it ends up being more like porn than a horror novel, but this ended up not really being the case.
Giving Jo Nesbo a Second Chance: The Snowman (Harry Hole #7)
A couple years ago I decided to try getting into the Harry Hole series by starting with the first book, The Bat. It was awful. I don't rate many books one star, but I gave that book one star. By that point, I did actually have another book by Jo Nesbo, The Snowman, which is the seventh book in the series. Since I didn't really plan on trying to read books 2-6 after hating the first one, I decided to try just reading the seventh book to see if I liked it.
Where the Truth Lies: Book Review and Comparison to Other Media
My review of the thriller novel Where the Truth Lies by Anna Bailey and a comparison to other media like it.
They All Fall Down: Book Review and Plot Summary
For the 52 Books in 52 Weeks prompt A Shoe on the Cover, I picked They All Fall Down by Cat Hogan.
Three 2021 Thrillers: Survive the Night, Bath Haus, and Razorblade Tears
For the 52 Books in 52 Weeks prompt Re-do One of the Previous Challenges for This Year, I decided to re-do the prompt Published in 2021 because there were a lot of books I wanted to read that were published in 2021 and didn't count for any other prompts I still needed. I read three books here, but I'm only counting one for the challenge.
The Cheerleaders: Book Review and Plot Summary
For the 52 Books in 52 Weeks prompt Set in a School, I picked The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas because I guessed from the title that it probably had something to do with a school.
The Last Time I Lied: A Review
For the 52 Books in 52 Weeks prompt Featuring the Environment, I picked The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager because it takes place at a summer camp.
